Fun Day 2016

The Fun Day will take place on Saturday 25th June from 11am on the recreation ground, which can be found in the centre of Broadclyst.

Programme: Kids races start the day off at 11.30, followed by displays, attractions and entertainment throughout the day.

Magic displays with Ozzy D and Firestone Appalachian dancers!

The Family Dog Show starts at 2pm in the main arena, concluding with best in show at 4.30pm.

Food: BBQ (Pinhoe Scouts) and jacket potatoes (Jacquettes) will be for sale on the field, as well as ice creams, cream teas and crepes.

Drink: Broadclyst Social club will be providing an outside bar, with real ale from Isca Ales.

What is there to do for the kids?

Lots of traditional fete stalls; animal handling (Axe Valley Wildlife Park); bouncy castles/slides (Wellington Bouncy Castles); face painting (Laughing Faces); lots of community stalls from theatre to toddlers, church to cafes; coconut shy, raffle (with some great prizes!) and lots more!

Anything for the grown ups?
Find out more about Broadclyst Neighbourhood Plan, the work of the National Trust, look at the art display, and find out more about a great restoration/conservation project at Hele. Relax while the kids are having fun and enjoy some stunning classic bikes which will be on display.

Getting there: Why not leave the car at home and catch the bus - the number 1 Exeter-Cullompton bus stops just a few hundred yards walk from the field (get off at the Red Lion bus stop).  A dayrider ticket from Exeter is just £2.40 adult return or £3.70 for a dayrider (allows up to 4 children 5-15 to be added to an adult ticket for just £1 each)

About the money...
Fun Day operates on a 'pot' system; all monies from pitch fees, stall takings, donations and entry fees are collected, totalled and then divided between all the local community groups which took part in this year's event, with each group receiving at least 10% more than it paid in. 

What about the overheads?
For the first time in 2016, Broadclyst Parish Council precepted (budgeted) £1,000 to cover the essential overheads associated with Fun Day such as first aid, PA, insurance, generator hire, etc. Council staff administrate and organise the event in order that ALL TAKINGS (not profits) are returned to the local community.

The list of regular helpers and supporters is too long to include here, but you know who you are and it goes without saying your continued help and support is greatly appreciated and valuied.

However - there is one man without whom Fun Day wouldn't be the same. "Mr. Fun Day" - aka Dave Jolley - is unearthed from some dark cellar underneath Killerton to help us set up and clear away (and much more). First and last on the field, Dave appears as if by magic, waves his magic wand and everything just happens before returning to his man cave until the next year.

What there isn't: the Fun Day's ethos is a family day out with a little bit of everything thrown in, we aim to offer something for everyone. However in order for everyone to enjoy their day anyone deemed to be behaving in an unacceptable manner will be asked to leave.
