What can local Councils do?

There are three levels of Council in Devon:

Devon County Council

East Devon District Council

Broadclyst Parish Council

Each Council has different responsibilities that are shown below.

These lists are not exhaustive and are only to give a guide. However, as well as our responsibilities, we take on many additional activities on behalf of our parishioners as shown in our Action Plan which can be viewed and downloaded here

Stakeholders

The National Trust, which is Europe’s leading conservation charity, and is committed to preserving special places for ever, for everyone, has a large presence in Broadclyst Parish, with land and buildings throughout the Parish, including Killerton House at Budlake.

The National Trust also own some allotments in the parish, including the first field opposite Clyst Vale School.

The Killerton Estate consists of 2,500 hectares of agricultural land, 20 tenanted farms and 250 houses and cottages (many of which are in the village of Broadclyst), all of which surround a listed mansion – Killerton House  which has its own listed garden and parkland.

The Trust depends on the income it generates from its rental properties, and could not deliver its core objectives without the support of its thousands of tenants and volunteers.
