The Fun Day is confirmed for Saturday 29th June!

Slightly earlier in the calendar than in previous years, the 2013 Broadclyst Fun Day will take place on Saturday 29th June, kicking off at 11am with the carnival sound of the Samba Maricanas with the first of two sets of their 20 piece steel-drum band lead into an action-packed day of races, events, displays, stalls and the very popular Family Dog Show commencing at 2pm.

So what is there for us to do, I hear you cry! Well, where shall we start? For the young and young at heart, Fun Day offers a plethora of activities, entertainment and stalls to delight, engage and wear off some of that excess energy (where do they get it from…?). Exmoor Zoo will be coming along with a menagerie of mini-beasts to handle and learn about, Action 4 Children will be running a ‘messy corner’, bounce and slide on the big inflatable slide, castle and trampolines, have a go at making your own jewellery, design a unique badge with Pinhoe Scouts and to get musical with The Collective who will be bringing their mixing decks and range of instruments. Why not try your hand at something new? Circus-Bezerkus will be running a circus-skills workshop beside Arena A so pop along and develop a new skill!

This year will see the use of 2 arenas for the first time and we have a fantastic line-up of displays and interactive shows for your enjoyment! The kids’ races will start promptly at 11.30 so under starters’ orders: 1-2-3-Go! Devon and Cornwall Police will be offering a FREE property-marking service in Arena B during the afternoon, so bring your bikes and other items for security-coding. Buffie is happy to arrange a time to mark larger items at your home. Entries for the Dog Show will be taken on the day, and the day will close with the egg-throw.

All sounds just a bit too energetic and lively for you? Well why not meander around the stalls and pitches which offer a wide range of great value goods! From clothing to bunting, you will find an array of children’s and adults books, cakes, plants, make-up, ceramics, craft, wood carvings, body jewellery, incense burners, Shabby Chic, glitter tattoos, money boxes, trinkets, pens and bric-a-brac, as well as many ‘come and have a go’ stalls like hook-a-duck, coconut shy, tombola’s and much more! Admire the static classic motor-bike display

Budding gastronomes will delight in wandering along the ‘foodies’ aisle where fresh meat, dairy, produce, cup cakes, local ales, fruit juices, popcorn, sweets, a chocolate fountain, donuts and cheese will all be available to sample and buy to take away with you (if you don’t start eating them straight away!).

Whilst on the subject of food, there’s no need to pack a picnic as we are delighted to welcome back Burrow Farm on the BBQ and will no doubt also be glad of Liddicones ice cream van as the sun blazes down. Thanks in advance must go to Broadclyst Social Club for providing the outside bar whilst the Bowls club will be serving hot drinks all day and cream teas in the afternoon from the Pavilion building.

Broadclyst Fun Day offers Community and Voluntary groups an opportunity to raise awareness of their work and is a great chance to meet some of the faces behind the scenes. We are delighted to be joined, along with other 6 community groups, by Clyst Caring this year. Their tireless support and work in the Parish enriches the lives of so many. Further thanks must go to the National Trust at Killerton for their continuing support, not to mention their loan of Dave Jolly and a couple of gazebos! Dave is one of Fun Day’s unsung heroes who work very hard behind the scenes to support the Fun Day Committee when it comes to the actual rolling out of the day. He just loves wandering round the playing field marking pitches and measuring out arenas on the immediately-preceding Friday afternoon: he assures me its’ the highlight of his year!

So come along and join in a great day of family fun! We look forward to seeing you!
